Resonant Images

At MU’s new Brain Imaging Center, a facility equipped with some of the planet’s most sophisticated neuroimaging gear, researchers will investigate questions at the core of cognition. What role, for example, might tiny structural aberrations in axons, those long strings of nerve fibers carrying electrical signals in white matter, play in diseases like schizophrenia and autism? Conventional MRIs have in the past been of little help, but when coupled with technologies such as diffusion tensor imaging, as shown in the image above, they become very revealing.
