BACKSTORY

MU students and faculty members working in the reading room of New Academic Hall, now Jesse Hall, circa 1903. Crowded conditions and a growing collection spurred calls to construct a new library facility for the University, plans that eventually came to fruition with the construction, in 1915, of the Library Building. The centennial of the structure, named for former MU President Elmer Ellis in 1971, is being celebrated throughout the 2015-2016 academic year.
